Metadata Administrator
Overview: Abacus Technology is in need of a Metadata Administrator to develop and configure data models and participate in foundational metadata creation of data for enterprise deployment. This is a short term, six month position supporting the Energy Information Administration (EIA).
Major Duties & Responsibilities: Identify, describe, and integrate metadata and develop processes to describe data from various data sources using Metadata Manager. Enhance, update, and improve current metadata information for multiple internal data environments, and integrate with metadata from additional internal and external data sources. Participate in design and be responsible for execution and quality control of ongoing process to enhance metadata as changes in source or target data as well as infrastructure occur. Consults and advises the business intelligence team, DBAs, report writers, and others concerning the purpose, features, functions and optimal utilization of metadata. Participate in target metadata environment design, vendor analysis, and infrastructure decisions. Collaborate with the development of Web-I reports. Collaborate with DBA to ensure that metadata processes are compatible and consistent with the installed base of information systems and in compliance with established architectural and technical standards. Maintain data integrity and follow standards with regard to data validation, data use, security and system integrity.
Qualifications: 3+ years experience in metadata related positions using Metadata Manager or similar tools and including experience in data modeling. Bachelor s degree in a related field. Experience with Web-I reporting strongly preferred. Proven ability to develop business and technical requirements, and partner with technical development team to implement infrastructure enhancements. Knowledge of MS/SQL, PL/SQL, Oracle, data mining tools, TOAD, and business statistics. Working knowledge of PCs, collaborative computing tools, re-engineering and process improvement techniques, information management, general information architectures and technology, systems integration, laws, and regulations relevant to assigned applications. High energy level and tolerance for tight deadlines and time pressures. Proven analytical, logical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Some project management experience. Good communications skills, both verbal and written.
