Job Description:

Position Summary
7x24 hour function to perform the day-to-day operational tasks associated with customer installation and troubleshooting of AboveNet s Optical transmission networks. Provides technical assistance to field engineers and Project Managers to successfully complete all Managed Service Installations.

Responsibilities:
Managed Customer Network Installation;
De-installation of all AboveNet maintained facilities and services;
Troubleshooting Optical Network Issues during the installation process;
Ensure customer Network due dates are achieved including escalations;
Provide technical guidance during the installation cycle;
Maintain documentation and systems;
Provide Technical Support and guidance to junior engineers and Field Operations;
Follows pre-defined course of action in response to installs and Network alarming;
Position may require a modicum of independent judgment during network events should standard protocol not resolve the issue;
The individual must comply with departmental and corporate internal controls and all internal controls processes;
The individual must possess and employ the highest ethical and business standards and always conduct himself/herself with the greatest degree of professional integrity;
Other duties and responsibilities as required.

Requirements:
High School or G.E.D. required, VO-TEC or College preferred;
4+ years experience in communications install or support environment;
Strong computer skills, both MS Windows and *NIX preferred;
Experience in the operation and maintenance of optical transmission networks;
Experience and training on the following optical technologies: SONET/SDH/DWDM transmission equipment helpful;
Proven ability and knowledge of basic network management systems and diagnostic methods;
Must be able to work weekends, holidays as well as first, second and third shifts;
Mandatory overtime may be required on occasion;
Good communication and inter-personal skills are essential;
Must be able to express thoughts clearly and succinctly in both conversation and writing. Knowledge of a foreign language preferred;
Interacts with peers to give/receive shift handoff and to coordinate activities and events as they occur;
Interacts with field engineers by providing direction during customer dispatches;
Judgments are based on experience, and technical knowledge.
