Job Description The mission of Government Affairs is to proactively assess federal trends, national policies, and emerging issues and to develop strategies, policies, and actions to effectively address issues that impact Abbott s business operations.

1. Contributes to executive briefing and presentation materials.
2. Develops policy communications; key messages and assists with alliance development strategy.
3. Coordinates messaging with public affairs, internal and external communications.
4. Conducts research for special policy projects.

CORE JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for compliance with applicable Corporate and Divisional Policies and procedures.

Contributes, at a high level, to the creation and execution of executive briefing materials:
- Assists in the preparation of speeches, presentations and other communications for the Vice President of Government Affairs
- Writes first draft of executive briefing and presentation materials, including those for meetings with Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA), Healthcare Leadership Council, Business Roundtable, and National Association of Manufacturers.

Contributes to policy communications:
- Develops policy communications for grassroots campaign, such as newsletters and emails.
- Proactively identifies appropriate topics for communications via government affairs website and generates associated materials.
- Contributes to AEPAC messaging and AEPAC website content.
- Disseminates relevant press clippings to lobbying staff.
- Manages talking points file and ensures it is up to date (source, level of approval).
- Moves quickly between multiple assignments.

Assists with Alliance Development Strategy
- Tracks ally Government Affairs ally relationships.
- Covers PhRMA Alliance Development Committee.
Skills/Experience Requirements Basic Qualifications:
Excellent analytical and communication skills, including written and oral. Ability to develop messaging and communicate and persuade constituencies towards specific program actions and initiatives.
Team player who can effectively work across the internal and external organizations and who is easily and quickly accepted as an integral part of their teams.
Ability to understand new content, manage multiple priorities, organize complex systems.
Experience with Microsoft Powerpoint and Microsoft Word required.
Experience working in a congressional/administration or government affairs office preferred.
Experience with domestic and international health care practices, systems, regulations and administrative processes preferred.
Knowledge of major U.S. health care programs, including Medicaid, Medicare, DOD, VA, etc., preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:
Education Requirements Bachelors degree in related field (political science, English. 5-7 years relevant experience in Health Care related field or on Capitol Hill.
Significant Work Activities & Conditions Continuous sitting for prolonged periods (more than 2 consecutive hours in an 8 hour day)
Keyboard use (greater or equal to 50% of the workday)
Percent of Travel 0 - 20 %
