JOB SUMMARY: The Cook/Food Service Worker is responsible for preparing and cooking food products using a variety of equipment and utensils; and performs routine food service tasks under general supervision or instructions in a food production and/or customer service area. The position ensures compliance with the Food Hygiene, Health and Safety Licensing laws.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Prepare food such as meats, vegetables, baked goods and desserts, to include beverages, salads, dressings, sandwiches, and cold plates.
• Prepare and handle food according to food safety standards and Department of Health (DOH) regulations.
• Operate food production equipment to include slicers, choppers, dicers, mixers, vertical cutters, patty making machines, and other vegetable, bakery, and meat processing equipment.
• Refer to daily preparation list and production records at the start of each shift. Complete all opening and closing check lists.
• Portion food products prior to and after cooking to standard portion sizes and recipe specifications. Consistently apply the program standard portion sizes and recipe specifications. Use standard recipe card for preparing all products.
• Ensure all supplies, materials and equipment are available in assigned work areas; maintain replenishment as necessary.



Requirements
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

• High School diploma or GED.
• 2 years’ experience cooking in a commercial food service environment.
• Must be able to obtain a Food Safety Certification within 90 days of employment.

SKILLS and COMPETENCIES:

• Knowledge of food preparation, cooking, safety and sanitation.
• Ability to follow directions.
• Ability to communicate clearly with management and kitchen personnel.
• Good customer service skills.
