JOB SUMMARY: The Registered Nurse, RN assists in the care coordination and management of the healthcare needs for a diverse patient population seeking services at the clinic. Areas of focus include clinical, operational responsibilities and demonstrating developing leadership qualities. These would entail assessing patient needs, providing ancillary support to the physicians in planning outcomes and interventions, implementing interventions and evaluating the outcomes of care provided. He/she provides logical support and administrative duties.


Patient Care

• Triage walks in patients.
• Provide ancillary support to the physicians, assist in procedures.
• Assess, treat, and document on patients who present to the clinic for minor services which include suture removal, boot application, BP checks, and PPD readings.
• Review and follow up on laboratory results in conjunction with the providers.
• Call in approved prescriptions and refills according to clinic protocols and document patient’s chart. Help facilitate the response to inquiries from pharmacies regarding prescriptions and refills.
• Document in an efficient and accurate into the Electronic Health Care Record, E.H.R.
• Provides grant support/documentation as indicated.
• Oversee administration of all oral and injectable medications and vaccinations in the assigned clinical area.
• Administer if necessary the programs to support Medical Director.
• Initiate, track, and ensure timely response to complex/high risk patient referrals.
• Clarify physician instructions and provide patient education.
• Planning and Evaluating the outcomes of the care provided.
• Generate ideas for improvement and participate in testing and implementation when required, including quality improvement initiatives.
• Assure compliance with policy, procedures and regulatory agencies to ensure safety and HIPAA implementation.
• Assist with development and revision of clinic procedures and policies.


Staff supervision

• Supervise and coordinate activities of all the Medical Assistants/Interns at the clinic.
• Schedule and assign Medical Assistant duties to ensure sufficient coverage of all shifts.
• Oversee Medical Assistants’ duties in organizing, stocking and ordering supplies for examination rooms as well as surgical sterilization.
• Oversee daily temperature log completion and monthly and annual reporting for the Department of Health Vaccines for Children, DOH VFC program.
• Oversee the collection, storage, and transportation of all laboratory specimens to ensure proper collection and handling according to The Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments, CLIA standards.
• Maintain up to date Vaccine Information Statement (VIS) copies in the VIS binder.
• Assess workloads on an ongoing basis and make special assignment during peak and slow periods.
• Routinely provide feedback to clinical director on staff performance, work habits, and barriers to good teamwork and appropriate patient care; provide feedback for own performance.
• Complete annual performance evaluation of Medical Assistants with input from the clinicians and clinic administrator.
Staff Education
• Serve as a resource for other staff members by answering clinical questions and identifying staff needs for training.
• Provide in service training as needed for Medical Assistants and volunteers, particularly for meeting Annual Medical Assistants’ competencies.
• Oversee orientation to the clinic for new Medical Assistants.

Logistical Support

• Administer the DOH VFC program and coordinate monthly supply and accurate documentation.
• Identify need for volunteers and coordinate clinical volunteer activities at the clinic in coordination with the clinic administrator.
• Assist in maintaining dispensary inventory; responsible for appropriate removal and disposal of expired medications and vaccinations.


• Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing with current license in DC or MD, wherever assigned.
• Minimum two years of experience.


• Bilingual Spanish-English.


• Experience working with the Latino community.
• Proven interpersonal and communication skills.
• Patient and courteous with clients in difficult situations.
