Summary: Performs a variety of electrical trade functions such as the installation, maintenance, or repair of equipment for the generation, distribution, or utilization of electric energy. Work involves most of the following: installing or repairing any of a variety of electrical equipment such as generators, transformers, switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers, motors, heating units, conduit systems, or other transmission equipment; working from blueprints, drawings, layouts, or other specifications; locating and diagnosing trouble in the electrical system or equipment; working standard computations relating to load requirements of wiring or electrical equipment; and using a variety of electrician’s hand tools and measuring and testing instruments.

Demonstrated experience in installing, servicing, testing and repairing environmental control systems in work areas, equipment rooms, and other operational locations utilizing knowledge of refrigeration theory, pipefitting and structural layout.

Essential Job Functions: (not limited to duties as described – performs related duties as requested)

    • Installs, services and repairs environmental-control systems, utilizing knowledge of refrigeration theory, pipefitting and structural layout.
    • Mounts compressor and condenser units on platform or floor, using hand tools, following blueprints or engineering speci­fications. Fabricates, assembles and installs ductwork and chassis parts, using portable metalworking tools and welding equipment.
    • Connects motors, compressors, temperature controls, humidity controls and circulating ventilation fans to control panels and connects control panels to power source.
    • Replaces defective breaker controls, thermostats, switches, fuses and electrical wiring to repair installed units, using electrician’s hand tools and test equipment.
    • Checks equipment for serviceability. Positions equipment such as gasoline, diesel, and turbine engines, generators, switchgear, air compressors and other power plant auxiliary equipment.
    • Modifies equipment according to technical publications.
    • Checks installed equipment to ensure compliance with publications, policies, and directives. Inspects, tests, and services component systems such as safety, fuel, lubrication, cooling, air pressure, pumps, regulators, governors and accessory equipment.
    • Observes and interprets instruments such as ammeters, voltmeters, frequency meters, synchroscopes, automatic temperature and pressure recorders, and engine oil, fuel and coolant gauges.
    • Adjusts engine generator systems to maintain proper voltage, current frequency and synchronization.
    • Operates high voltage switches, circuit breakers, rheostats and other controls on switchboards and distribution panels.
    • Maintains and repairs electrical power generating equipment, automatic transfer panels and aircraft arresting systems. (as required by specific location/project).
    • Performs inspections. Interprets inspection findings and determines corrective action.
    • Identifies and records engine and generator malfunctions.
    • Troubleshoots malfunctions and inspects parts for excessive wear and other conditions.
    • Uses precision test equipment.
    • Removes, repairs and replaces defective power generating equipment components.
    • Performs corrosion control.
    • Inspects and replaces gauges and meters. Maintains aircraft arresting systems, including electrical, hydraulic, rewind, and pneumatic systems, and other electronic components.
    • Bench checks components and subassemblies. Tests and calibrates repaired items.
    • Reviews performance data and maintenance records to determine adequacy of maintenance.
    • Interprets data related to electrical power generating systems and aircraft arresting systems to prevent potential systems failure.
    • Studies layout drawings, and wiring and schematic diagrams and solves maintenance problems
    • Develops and establishes maintenance and operating procedures to ensure maximum efficiency. Maintains records.
    • Records meter readings, wear and alignment measurements, fuel consumption and other data in performance logs.
    • Furnishes information for reports and recommends changes to correct defective equipment or improve operating procedures.
    • Comply with environmental policies, use safety practice and standards and foster environmentally responsible work environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Site Lead.
Required Skills

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Knowledge of principles of electronics and electricity, including generation, conversion, transformation, distribution and utilization; types, capacity, and purpose of high and low voltage circuits, circuit breakers, switches, fuses, regulators, relays, instruments, and meters associated with electric generation and distribution; interpreting instrument and meter readings; wiring diagrams, schematics, drawings, and technical publications; techniques of operating and maintaining internal combustion engines, generators, generating plants, distribution panels, and accessory equipment; repair and maintenance of aircraft arresting systems; use and purpose of test equipment; safety rules and practices; environmental policies; principles of management; and operation and repair of electrical power production systems.
  • Maintaining and repairing HVAC equipment and systems.
  • Performing recurring maintenance and seasonal overhaul on systems and components.
  • Troubleshooting malfunctions, and repairing or replacing failed components.
  • Evaluating water treatment for cooling systems.
  • Ensuring EPA and OSHA compliance with safety and environmental regulations for fuels, refrigerants and hazardous materials.
  • Must be able to operate a vehicle equipped with a standard transmission.
  • Must have good verbal and writing skills; be familiar with Microsoft programs such as Excel, Word, and Power Point.

Physical Demands/Working Environment:

  • Candidates must be physically able and willing to work long hours to meet mission and contract requirements.
  • Must be able to pass AMIC employment and pre-deployment qualification requirements to include medical, drug testing and background checks, etc.
    • Must be willing to travel via coalition military convoy to perform corrective and periodic scheduled maintenance to a secondary location.
    • Must be willing and able to work in austere conditions.

Required Experience

Education & Experience: (or equivalent)

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Certification in assigned area.
  • Minimum 4 years experience in PowerPro and HVAC electrical systems operation, maintenance and repair.
  • Completion of an HVAC apprenticeship.

License & Certifications:

  • Certified Journeyman Electrician preferred.
  • Applicable Type I, II, III, or Universal Certifications.
  • Must have valid Driver’s License and be able to operate a vehicle with a manual transmission.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain a passport.
