The Assistant Medical Director is responsible for, but not limited to, coordination of the daily activities of the various disciplines of the Unity Health Care Health Center team, and serves as the liaison between Unity and the community. Under the supervision and direction of the Medical Director and in collaboration with the site leadership team (Health Center Director (HCD) and Nurse Manager (NM)), the Assistant Medical Director is responsible for the medical operations of the site.


  • Performs patient care and provider duties.
  • Works closely with the site leadership team on a number of tasks involving overall clinic management.
  • Assists with, at least monthly, the site's Provider meetings to include the Deputy Chief Medical Officer of Medical Administration (DCMO) and Vice President of Clinical Administration or designee(s).
  • Assists with identification of supply and equipment needs.
  • Assists with provider schedules to include approval of scheduled absences as directed by Medical Director.
  • Serves and is an active member of the site Quality Improvement team.
  • Collaborates with the HCD and NM to improve non-medical systems procedures including registration, appointments, and patient flow.
  • Collaborates with management team to improve or maintain provider/staff/patient satisfaction, quality of care, and productivity.
  • Assists the Medical Director or DCMO designee in interviewing and selecting potential provider candidates.
  • Assists the Medical Director as needed with the site's All Staff meetings.
  • Assists with identification of supply and equipment needs.
  • Provides feedback to the HCD and NM, when requested, with regard to staff evaluations.
  • Assists the Medical Director with the orientation of new providers to site and serves as resource to all providers at site.
  • Provides feedback to the Medical Director for annual provider evaluations and peer review and as designated assists with their completion. When completing the Assistant Medical Director should receive feedback from the Medical Director, HCD and NM (e.g. with regard to timeliness, respectfulness, and teamwork with rest of staff).
  • Assists the Medical Director in verifying, ensuring site coverage, approving, and submitting leave requests for all providers, to the HCD for processing in accordance with the provider leave policy.
  • In the absence of the Medical Director, participates in monthly Medical Director and the Unity wide Quality Improvement monthly meetings.
  • In the absence of the Medical Director, supervises providers at site and compliance with policies and procedures of Unity Health Care.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


· Must have a current DC License, CDS and DEA (registered in DC) registrations.

· Graduate of an accredited Medical School and Residency or Nurse Practitioner Program.

· Board eligible or board certified in area of specialty.

· 2-3 years of experience in an ambulatory care setting, with some contact with homeless patients preferred.

· Managerial experience in a healthcare setting preferred.

Required Education/Required Training: Spanish speaking. Graduate of an accredited Medical School. Licensed or eligibility as MD in DC, a DC Controlled Substance Number, and a Federal DEA Number, CPR certification and other applicable statuses which addresses the provision of medical and medically related services in DC. All Licenses held must be current and retained in good standing.

*For correctional position-correctional experience- preferred but not required.
